When to do it is your other key consideration.

You need to choose your season – not too hot, not too cold, lowest possible chance of rain, not too sunny, but preferably with as many hours of daylight as possible.

Once you have decided upon the season, you need to pick your month and consider factors like school/public holidays (and whether they make the route busier or quieter?), what are the chances of rainfall/inclement weather, how many hours of darkness will there be, etc?

Once you’ve identified your season and month, you need to pin down a day of the week: is the weekend your only option due to work obligations or are you able to do a week day which may mean the segment has less traffic, or may mean that any shops/facilities are closed.
